When the American Museum of Magic sought to have a more modern and engaging website, they turned to The Jakes Group for support.
QUESTION
While the American Museum of Magic had a functioning website that included a wealth of information and an online store, it overall had a more antiquated look. The client also noticed that it was becoming increasingly difficult to make updates in the site’s back end. Thus, from a functionality standpoint they sought to build something that would be easier to edit in the future. They also wanted to have a website that was more visually engaging and user-friendly on both desktop and mobile.
CREATE
We met with the client to better understand what they liked about their current site and what they hoped to see in a new one. We also familiarized ourselves with the museum’s branding. The American Museum of Magic seeks to preserve the tradition and history of magic, and it pays homage to the magicians of the past. While the former website had rich, informative content, it wasn’t necessarily easy to find. We also saw that there is an opportunity to revive the brand and make it more appealing to audiences of all ages.
- SEO: We included terminology that specifically targeted people looking to research more about magic and its history.
- Call-to-actions: We wanted to prompt visitors to plan their visit, become a museum member, make a purchase on the online store or make a donation. We incorporated messaging and design elements to help do just that.
- Visuals: We incorporated aspects of movement into the design to modernize the site. Using direction from the client, our designer also aimed to give the website a sleek, artistic feel while also maintaining its more historic and traditional standing.
ACTIVATE
Through strong collaboration with the client, we were able to attain the desired images, content and direction quickly. The American Museum of Magic’s new website launched this spring, just in time for their open season. So far, they have heard positive feedback from their membership and board members. This was a fun project for our team to work on, and we appreciated the spirit of collaboration (and magic!) that the client brought to this project every step of the way.
Straight from the Client:
“I was very appreciative of the time the team spent getting to know our very unique organization! It made it so much easier to communicate what we specifically needed from the website later on in the process. Overall, I was very impressed with my experience working with The Jakes Group. They were always highly responsive, while also understanding that I have other responsibilities and working with me at my own pace.” – Sara Schultz, Director, American Museum of Magic
